Submissions

Another New Calligraphy seeks work exploring the human experience, our internal worlds, and life among others; these complex systems are often clearest in our slightest moments. Please familiarize yourself with recent projects for a general sense of these themes and their past expression. While the catalog's niche may seem primarily poetic, other modes of expression are more than welcome. The press is always on the lookout for more music and nonfiction, as well as further opportunities to broaden the inclusivity of its community. Marginalized creators are highly encouraged to consider Another New Calligraphy as a home for their work.

  • Submissions are always open and always free.
  • Please send your materials to anc@anothernewcalligraphy.com
  • Identify the submission type in your email; include a brief bio and/or personal links to provide context for your work.
  • Provide a concise overview of your project in the body of your message; empty or vague emails will not be considered.
  • Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please withdraw your work if it is accepted elsewhere.
  • The press does not publish work featuring hate toward any group or individual, including animals. Gratuitous violence, sex, and substance use is neither edgy nor interesting. Endeavor to provoke elsewhere.
  • Another New Calligraphy acquires first serial rights for texts and retains the copyright of artwork created for your writing or music project. If your work is subsequently reissued, please acknowledge its original publication.
  • All artwork is created in-house. If you have a project and its visuals ready to go, find a way to finish it yourself! The end result will be so much more rewarding than letting a publisher somehow interfere with your vision.
  • Copying text from this site in your query is not persuasive. It's obviously ideal for your philosophy to be a match, but restating what you read here does not convey such a parallel. It can be quite cloying, which you're very likely not.
  • Submissions are considered as soon as possible; response time varies. Please wait three months to inquire, though you may receive a message earlier.

Impossible Task

Another New Calligraphy's online journal publishes short works including but not limited to poetry, nonfiction, interviews, flash fiction, and music—visuals are always welcome! All material is connected in its exploration of conflict, a term open to interpretation though ever present in these increasingly challenging times. For written material, please send no more than roughly five pages.

Books

Given the principles behind Another New Calligraphy's books and their production, shorter manuscripts are preferred. Typical published length averages at sixty pages, though extreme variations occur. Some have been collaboratively edited to reach a distillation of their writer's intent. Thematically linked projects are favored over generalized collections.

Music

The music in Another New Calligraphy's catalog exemplifies a small portion of its interests and goals. The press began its life as a record label, with books as a side endeavor. Due to a number of factors, publishing quickly came to the fore. This has brought immeasurable levels of satisfaction, yet music still beckons. Perhaps you will be the one to reboot this component of Another New Calligraphy's efforts.
