A Restoration Goes On
What did I bury that never came back?
Baby teeth and loose change eventually
find their way to me. When do I stop? I want
a shower scene in a movie just for cleaning.
No hidden shots or see-through curtains,
everything up front. When I shower I don't
look in the mirror: that's someone else.
The Black Church in Brașov went up in flames
five times in its history. There's a painting
of Mary that survived. When I saw Her,
I asked how much of it was fake. The blue
in Her veil stayed. But Her face and hands
should've charred up. They've made Her
look like an outgrown child pageant star.
Why is everyone lying for God's sake?
You change the whole thing if you fix
every issue. You can look like yourself
by removing the damage, not the age.

love language
you hand me
your clementine.
i peel, juice squirts
in my eye.
i split it and
shove half
onto my tongue,
gulp down
the bitter pips
and look up:
your expression is
unreadable. you
nod towards
the shredded rind:
the whole thing.

Confrontation on Independence St.
A man is lying
Face down
On the stairs
To his apartment,
I kneel down
And listen
To make sure
He's still
Not breathing.

Scenario from my High School Spanish Homework
How are you? I'm fine. Actually,
I'm not fine. I'm in the hospital. I'm sick.
My face is green and my eyes are orange. I'm not tired.
The male nurse is here with a big syringe. I'm scared.
Oh good! The syringe is broken, so I take a pill.
Now I'm not so sick. I feel fine but the nurse is angry
Because the needle and the bed are broken.
I'm sitting in a chair. My parents are happy. (They're not
Happy when they get the bill.) The food here is delicious.
